Abstract
African Christology is a study done in order to understand how Africans understand and relate to the person of Christ in an African context. Correspondingly, Christology in African Pentecostalism is done in order to understand how African Pentecostals relate with Christ in their practice of religion. Previous studies have reflected on both the African concept of Christology and Christology within African Pentecostalism in different regions of the continent. However, Christology in African Pentecostalism has not been static but has evolved over the years according to the various streams of Pentecostalism. Therefore, what is new in this book is the discussion of the four paradigm shifts in Christology within prophetic Pentecostalism in South Africa. These paradigm shifts are identified in this book as complementing Christ, competing with Christ, replacing Christ and removing Christ. The various paradigm shifts require different approaches that will address the negative consequences of the shifts. Thus, in this book various scholars will address these paradigm shifts from a contextual, systematic theology, biblical, gender, missiological and decolonial perspective.
