Abstract
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book argues how programmers should explore new musical ideas. It focuses on the commonalities between music theory and computer programming. The book discusses how artificial intelligence (AI) continues to inform the authors’ work and considers its impact on the music industry and creative practice. It presents a ‘human-first deep learning design’ for embodied AI music robotics. The book examines approaches for AI and music within immersive cross-reality environments such as virtual and augmented realities. It reviews the adoption of AI with music from the standpoint of data. The book also presents the legal challenges of AI to music copyright and considers the application of global AI ethics reports for a fair and sustainable music ecosystem. It builds the review of AI ethics into a genuinely global perspective through a series of interviews with AI music practitioners in Asia and India.
