Abstract

The previous chapter introduced the concept of an operating system. This chapter will provide an introduction to operating systems, specifically the Disk Operating System (DOS), although others will be mentioned. DOS is the most common operating system found on IBM-compatible personal computers in business and in the Health Service. For this reason it is dealt with in detail here. Many of the commands available within application packages (software) that you may have access to are based upon DOS commands. An understanding of the basic principles will enhance your use of application packages.
