Abstract

For some years, the Physics Departments at Manchester, Glasgow and Sussex universities have organised and hosted annual summer vacation courses aimed specifically at girls undecided on whether to continue with physics beyond O-level or O-grade (Scotland). The three courses held in 1987 varied in length and content, but all were uniformly successful in achieving their objectives of making the girls aware of the excitement of physics and of the wide range of careers to which a degree in physics can give access.
