Professor Melville has made several changes in the new edition of this well-known text-book without altering its general character, which is that of an elementary introduction requiring no advanced mathematical knowledge on the part of the reader. The most important changes are that the chapters on chemical change, catalysis, absorption and the colloidal state have been very extensively overhauled, brought up to date and arranged among the other chapters in a more logical sequence.
