Abstract
The compound microscope is a type of light microscope that usually consists of two lens systems. Different types of compound microscopes are used for viewing biological samples such as cells, tissues, glass particles, etc. A compound microscope has various applications in biology, pathology, physics, forensics and many other fields to examine the minute samples. The compound microscope uses two types of lenses, i.e. the objective lens and the eyepiece. Both lenses are accommodated in a hollow tube where the upper lens is the ocular lens, and below it is an objective lens placed near the object. The compound microscope consists of structural and optical components used to view the magnified image of the specimen sample. The total magnification in a compound microscope is calculated by multiplying the power of the objective lens with the power of the eyepiece lens. Linear magnification is calculated in the case of the objective lens, and angular magnification is calculated in the ocular lens.
