Abstract

In the book’s introduction, Torsten Jost firstly explains the institutional context in which the research volume was collaboratively produced, i.e. the International Research Center “Interweaving Performance Cultures” at Freie Universität Berlin. Secondly, the introduction acquaints readers with an understanding of performances as relational “machineries of knowing” and of performance cultures as dynamic “habitats of knowledge practice.” Thirdly, the introduction explains the main research aims of the book—examining performances as specifically situated machineries of knowing as well as the knowledge-related effects of practices and processes of interweaving performance cultures. Finally, the introduction offers an overview of the chapters included in the volume.
