Abstract
The increasing electrical energy price worldwide and generally the liberation of Electrical Energy Markets, has highlighted the standalone residential PV systems as a potentially viable commercial product, especially for remote areas (islands, rural territories etc). Critical values for the success of these systems are the initial required capital for such an investment, the payback period and the compatibility with national and international directives on the low voltage electrical installations and on the power quality. To this direction, an improved standalone bidirectional battery charging system for residential applications is introduced in this paper. Extended Matlab/Simulink results are validating the advantages of the proposed configuration, especially in cases of three phase short circuit faults.
