Abstract
Ocular fluorophotometry studies were performed one month after surgery in two groups of patients after intravenous administration of fluorescein: group I comprised extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) patients with intact capsule and posterior chamber intraocular lens (PC IOL) ( N = 13); group II comprised intracapsular cataract extraction (ICCE) patients with anterior chamber IOLs (AC IOL) ( N = 11). The fluorescein concentrations were measured in the aqueous and in the vitreous and the distribution of fluorescein between anterior chamber and vitreous calculated. The penetration of fluorescein into the anterior vitreous was significantly less in the ECCE group (group I, aqueous-vitreous penetration ratio (AVPR) = 1.1 ± 1.0 × 10 -3 min -1 ; group II AVPR=3.0 ± 2.1 × 10 -3 min -1 , P -6 min -1 in eyes with macular oedema ( P -6 Min -1 in eyes with macular oedema ( P
