Abstract

The Beaudette chicken-embryo-adapted strain of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) of chickens has been reported to replicate in adult chicken kidney cell cultures (2,4), monkey kidney cells (6), and various tissues of embryonated chicken eggs chorioallantoic membrane (6), fibroblasts (11,13), heart (6), lung (8), liver (6,7), and kidney (1,3,10,14). Accepted as evidence of IBV replication are cytopathic effect (3,4,11,13), plaque formation (9,14), syncytial formation (1,10), and cell-associated virus, as determined by fluorescent antibody (9,10,12). This strain of IBV has been reported not to replicate in HeLa (5) and L (6) cell cultures.
