Abstract

Absorption spectra of atmospheric water vapor and oxygen are measured with a titanium: sapphire laser operating in the 760–820 nm region using intracavity laser techniques. These data demonstrate that a laser resonator utilizing a solid state Ti: sapphire medium can be operated multimode for the high sensitivity intracavity detection of extremely weak absorption. These results are analogous to intracavity properties long established for liquid dye lasers.
