Abstract

The main purpose of the research is the study of the peculiarities of questions that are used in dialogues and conversations in the American and Russian cultures based on the interviews of famous journalists W.W. Pozner’s and O. Winfrey. The analysis has been carried out and it demonstrated the interrelation between cultural features of the American and Russian mentalities and the type of questions used in interviews. Questions for the research were collected from the interviews of W.W. Pozner and O. Winfrey. The analysis has been conducted and the classification has been developed. The types of questions in the resulting classification and its frequency of usage in the interview determine the mentality of the nation developed within the time. As a result of the project we have got the preliminary conclusion concerning linguocultural features of interrogative sentences that are used by conversation partners. These peculiarities let us emphasize similarities and differences in mentalities of communication parties and mark the necessity of consideration the cultural differences by the interpretation of dialogues.
