Abstract
Establishing interrater reliability of psychodynamic diagnostics is an important issue in personality research. The article by Scholte, Tiemens, Verheul, Meerman, and Hutschemakers (2009) points out that several interrater reliability studies in this field, including those concerning the Developmental Profile (DP), have the limitation of using ratings of the written interview texts. As a more suited alternative, the authors propose to use scores directly derived from rating videotaped interviews. Although we do not argue with the authors on this particular point, we think that in their study concerning the interrater reliability of the DP, they ignored a point that is far more important for performing a robust reliability study, namely, the use of an appropriate sample. Scholte et al. (2009) report insufficient interrater reliability, contrary to the earlier findings by Van, et al. (2000) and Van, Polak, Abraham, Overeem-Seldenrijk, and van Keulen (2005), which showed sufficient interrater reliability for scoring the subsequent
