Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this work is to develop soil parameter determination procedures from in situ testing and in particular from pressuremeter tests. In the first part of a joint paper, we present some experimental and numerical results of the combined influence of soil permeability and loading rate on the pressuremeter curve. The results highlight the influence of the drainage conditions on the undrained cohesion derived from the tests. The main conclusions are summarised by a diagram which characterises the drainage conditions during the pressuremeter test as a function of soil permeability, loading rate, as well as the dimension of the probe.
