Summary

The qualitative research method of the study

Qualitative research methods have been the center of attraction in psychology studies in recent decades. A recent study [1] that took a phenomenological approach to investigate the experiences of problematic gamblers, revealed that gamblers attributed different meanings to their gaming behavior [1]. Another study with a phenomenological approach indicated how important social support was for gamblers to cope with gambling problems [2]. The results of these studies exposed that problematic gamblers have common or diverse experiences that cannot (yet) be achieved with statistical measuring instruments. According to Husserl [3], the laws of nature, which are based on a cause-effect relationship (or causality), have a certainty in the light of the results obtained under “certain” conditions. Phenomenological approach does not ignore the empirically perceived object, on the contrary, accepts it unconditionally
