Abstract

The Internet has changed the way humans do various activities in life. One of the most popular uses of the internet these days is IoT (internet of Things). IoT is the use of the internet to connect many things. Sensors are embedded in certain places and the measurement results read in real-time. The IoT applied very wide in many fields, such as industry, home automation, healthcare, and smart city. Busy lifestyles in urban communities make homes often left behind. Consequently, the house is not monitored, prone to disasters and waste of electrical energy. As the technology grows rapidly, the number of smartphone users is also increasing. The aim of this research is to design Android applications for IoT system that aims to monitor home environment conditions and manage the use of power at home. The development of the apps aims to provide convenience for the user when monitoring his home. Application provide basic features such as home monitoring, power management, relay control, and user account management. Not only the basic features, this app also provide features for home conditions data analysis, electronic device and early warnings system. The tests include the measurement of latency and bandwidth used by the application. User feedback was also collected from a survey. The test results show that the average latency of application features is less than two seconds and uses a bandwidth of 0.1 KB/sec. The application still shows good benchmark when used up to 150 users simultaneously. Users also provide a good assessment of the applications developed based on the survey.
