Abstract

Sensing layer is one of the most important parts of the IoT (Internet of Things) system located at the bottom of the architecture. It works by conducting environmental condition data acquisitions using sensors as well as doing something through actuators according to the user’s commands in real time. In this paper, design and implementation of IoT sensor system for home power manager and environment condition monitor is proposed. Sensor system designed to be simple, low cost, power efficient and reliable by using a simple cluster architecture as one of the anticipatory actions offered to solve the problems of Indonesians who are worried about the conditions (comfort and safety) of the residence while away from home for long time. The residential conditions are referred to temperature, humidity, light intensity, LPG gas concentration level in a room and water level (flood level) in the neighborhood. Another function is that it can perform power management by regulating the use of electronic devices connected to the system and perform monitoring on the amount of power consumption in each electronic device. Sensor subsystem designed using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee as low power wireless data communications medium. The results are a reliable sensor system that is made and can be used to collect data information about the home environment condition and power management and send it to the database through local gateway in real time. In addition, the sensor system created successfully execute commands from the user that turns on or off electronic equipment.
