Abstract

As a recently created and still developing country, Croatia is in a relatively early stage if its waste management infrastruc ture development. Main sources, categories and quantities of industrial hazardous waste, as well as the practices and capac ities of existing waste management facilities will be reviewed. Information on the regulatory framework and the enforce ment mechanisms of the country to achieve compliance will also be provided, together with particular obstacles stemming from the local circumstances which are sometimes markedly different to those in most developed countries.
