Abstract

During 2004, the United Nations, through the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen international cooperation and increase efforts to counter theworld drug problem.UNsystem drug control activities focused mainly on carrying out the 1999 Action Plan for the Implementation of theDeclarationontheGuidingPrinciples ofDrug Demand Reduction, which served as a guide for Member States in adopting strategies and programmes for reducing illicit drug demand in order to achieve significant results by 2008.
