Abstract

The paper gives the brief summary of the key dates of bilateral cooperation of Russia and the Republic of Korea at the inter-country and regional level. It was demonstrated that work of scientific representatives of Russian and Korean scientific organizations and institutions in the format of expedition trips, bilateral meetings, workshops, on sessions of international conferences and symposia, etc. for carrying out joint research projects actively contribute to development of scientific and technical cooperation of two countries, favoring the exchange of new ideas and accumulated experience. The main directions of research activity within the framework of Eurasian sustainable development, formulated on the basis of the UN Sustainable Development Goals Platform were detailed at the example of joint project activity of V.B. Sochava Institute of Geography SB RAS (Irkutsk) and Korea Environment Institute — KEI, Sejong) (2016–2019). The initiated cooperation contributes to further deepening of relations in the field of science and technology, and development of the neighboring countries' scientific and innovative potential. The example is continuation of joint research activity in the field of sustainable development, with the line of research “Low Carbon Cities” within the North East Asian Subregional Programme for Environment Cooperation — NEASPEC. The paper provides the brief summary of the study of Irkutsk city air contamination, and specifies the principal directions for the urban-industrial environment improvement.
