Abstract

An important property of mechanical structures related to low temperature vibration is their internal mechanical damping. By means of vibration bars made of the alloy Al 6082 and an inductive position encoder the internal friction and resonance frequency shift were measured at temperatures down to 4K. The influence of clamping on internal friction was the subject of some exploratory tests.
