Abstract

A technique for the measurement of internal dynamic stresses is described and experimental results are presented. The method utilized an embedded piezoelectric crystal to obtain dynamic stress information interior to the body. A Hopkinson pressure bar arrangement was used to compare outputs of the embedded transducer with surface mounted strain gauges. The pulse shapes were found to be identical to those obtained from the strain gauges with stress amplitude accurately evaluated using a modified piezoelectric constant.
