Abstract

The relative intensities of fifteen internal conversion lines associated with the 5 electromagnetic transitions in 207Pb, following the decay of 207Bi, have been measured. The following internal conversion coefficients have been determined: α K (897) = =(1.81 ± 0.25) × 10 −2, α K (1063) = (9.43 ± 0.47) × 10 −2, α K (1442) = = (2.7 ± 0.4) × 10 −3 and α K (1770) = (3.0 ± 0.5) × 10 −3. The results are consistent with prior multipolarity assignments of Ml for the 897.3 keV transition and E2 for the 1442.0 keV transition and are also consistent with earlier assignments of Ml for the 1769.7 keV transition. The value of α K(1063) is several percent lower than earlier reported values. The power of this technique for investigating very weak lines is clearly demonstrated by the results obtained for the 897.3 and 1442.0 keV transitions.
