Abstract

Interactions between methanol and some sulphonamide drugs namely sulphamethizole, sulphabenzamide, sulphaquinoxaline and sulphachloropyridazine were investigated. Physical parameters such as densities (ρ), sound velocities (u) and viscosities (ƞ) were measured, and the effects of temperature and concentration on aqueous phase interactions were deduced. Other physical quantities like apparent molar volumes, Vφ, apparent molar adiabatic compressibilities, kφ, viscosity B-coefficients and temperature coefficient (dB/dT) were derived from measured data. Corresponding partial molar quantities were determined by employing Redlich-Mayer type equation. Sulphamethizole and sulphabenzamide are regarded as structure breakers based on positive values of dB/dT, while sulphaquinoxaline and sulphachloropyridazine are considered to be structure makers due to negative values of dB/dT.
