Abstract

Abstract The 1990s will witness a significant increase in meteorological observations, both traditional and innovative. Numerical weather forecast models will improve in terms of scale definition and physics. The role the observations, especially those from space, may play in improving the intermediater range forecast is presented. The greatest challenge is to insure that the modeler and the observationalist exploit their opportunities together.
