Abstract

The paper discloses the extent of contamination due to airborne paniculate lead within a house situated near an urban motorway. The study shows that for a 3 week period during November and December 1973 the lead concentration inside and outside the house were closely similar, around 0.9μ gm−3. Fluctuations in daily lead concentration between 0.2 and 2.4 μgm−3 at the house follow the pattern of lead contamination at the motorway with meteorological factors exerting a controlling influence on the concentration monitored.
