Abstract
This paper describes an optical force and temperature sensor based on two mono-mode fibre one of which is weakly birefringent, the other one strongly so. The optical arrangement of the sensor comprises a birefringent optical fibre interferometer, followed by a classical Michelson interferometer. The source has a short coherence length. Path differences induced by temperature and force in the first interferometer are compensated in the second one. Force and temperature are measured simultaneously and independently.
