Abstract

The elastic scattering of a fast particle in an atom at high energy may be treated as diffraction [1]. Therefore, there appears a diffraction shadow whose blackness depends on the particle interaction with the atom. If the scatterers are arranged in chain along the shadow, the interference of shadows from several “semi-transparent” scatterers can result in a pronounced black shadow.
