Abstract
Abstract Chemical engineering as an engineering discipline has come to the fore during this century and its further progress will be influenced by the following considerations: first, developments of chemical processes in large-scale plants and changes in raw materials, and second, economic and political developments relevant to the chemical industry and developments in chemical engineering proper, including engineering procedures for the design and construction of production plants. These are all reviewed here. In the future new processes for very large production plants are to be expected for the chemical conversion of raw materials to energy.
