Abstract

In a thin fiber of radius R, the long-range elastic dipolar interaction between two dipoles at a distance r from each other is modified from V\ensuremath{\propto}1/${r}^{3}$ to V\ensuremath{\propto}exp(-r/R). This offers opportunities to test the recent theory of tunneling systems in glasses based on the long-range interdefect interactions. Several possible experiments are proposed.
