Abstract

ISES – Interactive Synthesis of Engineering Structures and components is a concept presented in this paper. Such synthesis capability represents a tool for engineering designers. By synthesis it is understood that the computer generates a structure whose form and specific configuration are unknown at the outset except for the usual data typiclly available to the designer, such as the external loads, space limitations, boundary conditions (supports and constraints), and relevant material properties. The method algorithm and software are designed to have the virtues of two known approaches: analysis and optimization.
