Abstract

We present diabatic potential curves for 1Σ, states of LiF and integral cross sections for elastic scattering of Li(2S) + F(2P) at thermal collision energies. Potential curves were obtained using atomic pseudopotentials and the extended valence-bond method. Pairs of coupled scattering equations were numerically integrated with a recently developed approach. Comparison of cross sections for homopolar (single channel) and homopolar plus ionic (two coupled channels) interactions provides information on the electron jump mechanism during collision.
