Abstract
The decay of an upper hybrid (UH) wave to a lower hybrid (LH) wave and a daughter upper hybrid wave is considered. The linear stage of the process was analyzed for ionospheric conditions and compared with experimental data as well as with theoretical results of other authors. It was shown that the effective excitation of the prominent downshifted maximum feature of stimulated electromagnetic emissions in the ionospheric modification experiments could take place possibly due to interaction between two oblique UH waves and a heavily damped LH wave.
