Abstract
The nonlinear interaction of strain waves with noise is analyzed for one-dimensional nonlinear elastic materials. In a previous article [E. Matsumoto, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 81, 1713 (1987)], the author showed that the variation of the spectra of strain waves is governed by an integrodifferential equation. According to the result, the variation of a weak wideband spectrum (noise) is of small order when it exists alone. However, this article shows that if there exist a noise and a strong wave with a narrow-band spectrum, secondary noises of the same order as the initial noise are generated. The frequency ranges of the secondary noises are determined by the combination of the frequency range of the initial noise and the central frequency of the strong wave.
