Abstract

The heteronetwork structure of copolymers of methacrylic acid and N,N′-ethylene dimethacrylamide (KMDM) characterized by the appearance of porosity with increase in the content of the crosslinking agent leads to a number of features on their interaction with water. The integral free energy of sorption of water vapour by KMDM polymers in the H-form rises in absolute terms with increase in the content of N,N′-ethylene dimethacrylamide, which is connected with decrease in the interchain interactions in the polymer with increase in its porosity and rigidity. With increase in the porosity of KMDM polymers in the H-form the appearance of sorption hysteresis is observed.
