Abstract

(Abstracted from Anesth Analg, 121:1536–1546, 2015) Patients who develop acute kidney injury (AKI), acute respiratory failure, and/or sepsis have markedly increased risk of mortality. In this retrospective, observational cohort study, the authors used data from the American College of Surgeons-National Quality Improvement Program, a large multicenter database of surgical outcomes from hospitals throughout North America, to understand epidemiologic links among these 3 conditions and any additive effects on perioperative care.
