Abstract

During microsclerotial development in Verticillium dahliae cells of the sclerotial knot were frequently penetrated by adjacent hyphae. It is suggested that this phenomenon may be one of the factors responsible for the production of dead, protective cells normally found in mature microsclerotia of V. dahliae.
