Abstract

In this study, we have analysed meiotic pairing in wheat-rye intergeneric hybrids obtained by crossing T. aestivum cv. Chinese Spring with two cultivars of S. cereale (Elbon and Ailes, respectively) and S. vavilovii. The results have shown that meiotic behaviour of hybrids is different in relation to the type of rye utilised. This has been interpreted as being due to the different effect of each particular rye genotype on the homoeologous pairing in relation with the reproductive systems (allogamy or autogamy) of the particular rye.
