Abstract

The intensity and energies of γ-rays produced via the E p = 992 keV proton capture resonance in the 27 Al( p,γ) 28 Si resonance are especially useful for calibration of Ge(Li) detectors in the range 1.5–10.7 MeV. We have reexamined the γ-ray decay from this resonance using a high resolution Ge(Li) detector. This study revealed two previously unreported γ-rays with energies of 3063 and 3181 keV both of which could be assigned to transitions from levels already established in 28Si. Also five other weak transitions that are known to decay from bound levels of 28Si were observed in the decay of this resonance. A possible weak branch from the resonant state to the ground level was also observed. A more accurate summary of the γ-ray relative intensities from the decay of this resonance is presented along with an improved decay scheme.
