Abstract

Distribution transformers are one of the most important equipment in power system network. As large number of distribution transformers distributed over a wide area in power electric system, the preventive diagnosis and maintenance of these transformers have become more and more essential in recent time in order to improve the reliability of electric power systems. Most of the distribution transformers in field actually fail due to leakages in transformer oil, overloading, sudden rise in temperature and lack of timely maintenance. To overcome such problem proper monitoring of distribution transformer health status from remote end is necessary. This paper presents the techniques used for monitoring the health status of distribution transformer from remote end. The intelligent condition monitoring system is developed using single board computer and data acquisition system which senses different parameters and communicated to the remote end using internet facility. The health status and economical aspect of distribution transformer with intelligent condition monitoring system which provides necessary information about operating condition for analysis. The performance of intelligent condition monitoring system is tested on specially designed 15 kVA distribution transformer in the laboratory. Distribution transformers with intelligent condition monitoring system can be provided for maintenance as and when required.
