Intellectual Product and Method of Assessing the Competitiveness of an Enterprise with It

Abstract

This paper illustrates the essence, types, and features of intellectual product and method of assessing the competitiveness of an enterprise with intellectual product. Until now, there have been many discussions on knowledge-intensive economy, knowledge intensity of goods and service, and intellectual property and knowledge capital as intangible product. In other words, while many authors have discussed the influences of knowledge on the economy in macroeconomic level, others have discussed the side of managing intellectual properties and role of knowledge in technological market competitions in microeconomic level. However, our view is that we cannot find the meaning of goods and service which knowledge is embodied and the view on competitiveness assessment of enterprise with intellectual goods and services. In the era of knowledge economy, on the one hand, knowledge is an input as production resource, and on the other hand, it yields output as intellectual product. In order to reveal the essence and features of intellectual product and to solve the method of assessing the competitiveness of enterprise with intellectual products, we investigated the structure of product and features of its evolvement, revealed the essence of intellectual product based on structure of product capacity, and showed the feature of intellectual product through mutual comparison between traditional and intellectual product. After that, we suggested the methodology for assessing the competitiveness of enterprise, using the various indicators related to intellectual product and standard transformation techniques. The major conclusions are that there are intangibles and tangibles in the intellectual product, and in the era of knowledge economy, enterprises with intellectual product (IP) have competitive advantage, and structure and feature of IPs significantly and differently affect the competitiveness of enterprises.
