Abstract
Several functions have been implemented in the regional and local power control centres in Sweden to facilitate the control of hydro electric power plants. There are two fields that have been of special interest during the last few years. Optimization between turbines in the same station to get the best total efficiency and supervision of the condition of the units. Supervision of the condition makes it possible to schedule the maintenance work. Calculation of water flow through turbines, set point conversion, calculation of head losses in intake gates and river sections and calculation of spinning reserve are some other functions that are implemented to assist the dispatcher.
