Abstract

We describe a system, which integrates PDMS microfluidic flow channels, a CMOS Active Pixel Sensor (APS) imager, and commercial light sources for performing visible absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. PDMS elastomer and a sensitive silicon photodetector such as an APS imager allow measurements to be made on low concentrations of solutions by placing the microfluidic flow channels directly on the imager. Emission sources for the spectroscopy include commercial LEDs or white light sources. Specially tuned notch filters are fabricated to select the appropriate wavelength for both absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. These filters in combination with the APS imager allow for spectral measurements to be acquired.
