Abstract

This paper presents work at the interface between research on the innovative university and entrepreneurial practice. More specifically it introduces an online toolbox (www.techtransfer.org/unitool) for universities to assess their progress on the way towards becoming more entrepreneurial organisations. The paper first explores relevant concepts from the research and practitioner literature. Then it describes how the tool was developed also pointing to alternative models and approaches. Finally, the article illustrates how the self-assessment tool can be applied and reports on first experiences with trial users. The tool is predominantly an effort to transfer knowledge on managing entrepreneurial change in universities and communicate recent research findings to interested practitioners but also offers novel insights in good practice cases of entrepreneurial universities. Keywords—self-assessment, academic entrepreneur-ship, innovative university, entrepreneurial university
