Abstract

The National NDT Centre's capabilities in providing specialist ultrasonic and eddy current equipment are described. By using a modular approach, equipment to carry out a specialized inspection can be assembled very rapidly. In the case of ultrasonics, the alternative approach of capturing the whole ultrasonics waveform is also described. In this method the information required to perform the particular measurement is extracted by the computer. This gives a capability to provide ultrasonic NDT instrumentation to meet the demands of most inspection techniques. In the case of eddy currents, a strong theoretical base combined with a multi-frequency, multi-probe range of instruments that can be interfaced to computers gives improved reliability to inspection tasks.
