Abstract

Local-field correctionsG±(q,q z ) due to manybody effects are important for the description of the charge-susceptibility and the spin-susceptibility of the interacting Fermi gas. We calculate the local-field corrections for electrons or holes in multiple-quantum-well structures within the Hartree-Fock approximation whereG+(q,qz)=G−(q,q z ). Analytical and numerical results are presented and anomalies are reported which are characteristic for superlattices. Finite width effects of the superlattice are studied. A charge-density-wave instability of the layered electron gas is discussed and the spin-density excitations in superlattices are calculated. The charge-density-wave instability is discussed in connection with high-T c superconductors.
