Abstract

For the quasi-one-dimensional electron gas with long-range Coulomb interaction we calculate the ground-state energy as a function of the spin polarization. An oscillator potential is used for the confinement. We describe the density and width dependence of the spin susceptibility. Analytical and numerical results are presented within a one-subband model. Using the spin susceptibility sum-rule we calculate spin-density excitations in quantum wires.
