Abstract

While the review process is well-recognized for its gate-keeping function (Crane, 1967; de Grazia, 1963), the narrative regarding the iterative process that takes place between a “revise & resubmit&x201D; and a letter of acceptance is one about which we hear little, unless directly involved in the process. In particular, the notion of theoretical contribution, or how work furthers our theoretical insight into a particular topic, is particularly fraught with challenges in terms of how to craft one and what one is (Corley & Gioia, 2011; Weick, 1995). How the theoretical contribution compares and evolves from first submission to the final iteration is a story that only authors and editors can tell. This symposium is aimed at giving a behind the scenes look at how prominent scholars and editors exchange ideas and collaborate to produce impactful theoretical articles in our discipline's top-tier journals.
