Abstract

Abstract Insecticidal control of the WIC was evaluated in a RCB design (5 replications) of variety ‘CP 74-383’ first ratoon sugarcane at Glendale Plantation, Edgard, LA, during the summer of 1997. Treatments were randomly assigned to field plots 3 rows X 30 ft long. Each treatment was applied in water using a CO2 backpack sprayer with two 8004 T-Jet flat fan spray tips per row positioned to apply the spray upward into the whorl of the sugarcane plants. Output pressure was 32 psi and the sprayer was calibrated to deliver 16 gpa. Insecticide treatments were applied on 15 Sep and evaluated 18 and 25 Sep and 15 Oct by counting the number of live WIC per leaf (3rd leaf below the whorl) for 12 plants per plot.
