Abstract

Railway transport in Slovakia has the second highest share of freight and passenger transport. However, Slovak railway transport is behind in the implementation of modern approaches and technologies. The railway infrastructure in Slovakia faces several tasks related to the modernization of communication systems, automatization of railway infrastructure, and implementation of a high-speed line. Railways of the Slovak Republic (ŽSR) is a state-owned enterprise managing the railway infrastructure in Slovakia owned by the state. The paper aims to point out the technological gaps in Slovak railways and to outline innovative trends in railway transport and infrastructure in the company - Railways of the Slovak Republic.
